The state of Uttarakhand came into existence on 09 November 2000 as the 27th state of India. When the state was formed, its name was Uttaranchal. But within 7 years of the formation of the state, a decision had to be taken to change it. As a result, the name of Uttaranchal was changed to Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand is the 27th state of India. The present capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun. The summer capital of the state of Uttarakhand has been made Gairsain in Chamoli district, and the idea is to make it a permanent capital.
Uttarakhand, It is considered as the most sacred and favorable state of various religious places, devotion and pilgrimage, also called 'Dev Bhumi' or 'Land of God'.
Uttrakhand, is best known for its river as it is the origin of the some of the most scared rivers of India like Ganga and Yamuna.

Major Rivers of Uttrakhand
Rivers have great importance in the culture of Uttarakhand. The rivers here are the main resource for irrigation and hydropower generation. Many religious and cultural centers are established on its banks. The origin of the Ganges, the holy river of Hindus, is the southern ranges of the main Himalayas. The Ganga originates from the Alaknanda Bhagirathi rivers. The tributaries of Alaknanda are Dhauli, Vishnu Ganga and Mandakini.
River Ganges, in the form of Bhagirathi, 25 km from Gaumukh. Originates from the big gangotri glacier. Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Dev Prayag confluence, after which she is recognized as Ganga. The origin of Yamuna river is from the western Yamanotri glacier of Bandarpunch.
Hons, Giri and Asan are the main tributaries in this river. The origin of the Ram Ganga joins the Makcha Chung glacier to the north-west of Taklakot. The Song River flows in the south-eastern part of Dehradun and joins the Ganges near Virbhadra.
Apart from these, the major rivers in the state are Kali, Ramganga, Kosi, Gomti, Tons, Dhauli Ganga, Gauriganga, Pindar Nayar (East), Pindar Nayar (West) etc.

•Languages of Uttrakhand
Mostly spoken language in the state is Hindi which has been given the place of official language, apart from this, Garhwali, Kumaoni language is mostly used in spoken language in the regional languages.
In other languages, Punjabi, Urdu, Nepali, Bhojpuri, Jaunsari, Bengali etc. languages are also used under the state.
•Folk Dances and Music of uttrakhand
The music and choreography of certain tribes settled in the state is of a special kind, which includes folk music, Pahari songs, etc. The folk music here is mostly influenced by social lifestyle, religious beliefs, culture, rural occupations and activities, festivals etc.
The main folk music of the state includes Panvaras, Mandalas, Thayda, Jhoda, Sombar, Khuddar, Basanti etc. Talking about the dance type of Uttarakhand, Langvir dance, Pandava dance, Bharda Nati, Dhurang, Dhuring are the major dance attractions of the state.
